About me
My Story:
I began my tertiary education studying a Bachelor of Education (Primary) and after 3 years I discovered that I wanted to work with children in a different way. My focus was on the internal worlds and emotional experiences that can make development and relationships difficult for many children. In 2006, I subsequently transferred my studies and graduated with a Bachelor of Psychology.
The enjoyment I found in learning about the brain and human behaviour left me wanted to gain further skills about how to connect and journey alongside people who are experiencing challenges or distress in their life. In 2009, I completed post-graduate studies and graduated from a Master of Social Science (Counselling).
In 2008, I had the opportunity to work in a Primary School supporting children. I worked in this role for over 3 years and absolutely loved it! It was here that I discovered my passion for being a listening ear, as well as providing children with a safe place to express themselves and make sense of their experiences.
I began working for a Non-Government Organisation in 2011 and spent the next 5 years supporting vulnerable children and at-risk families within the Child Protection System. During this time, I completed a Graduate Certificate in Developmental Trauma and began to deepen my understanding of the impact of trauma on the developing brain.
In 2016, I accepted the opportunity for a new role to further develop my therapeutic skills by working with families and children with complex needs in Out of Home Care. I specialised my practice by completing clinical training in Child Centred Play Therapy (CCPT) and becoming a certified clinician in Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT).
Since becoming a Play Therapist, I have been practicing in a range of different contexts. My clinical experience includes various trips to the Northern Territory to provide sessions in a remote Aboriginal community, as well as out of home care, residential care, education and early learning settings.
I love combining my knowledge of neurobiology and developmentally sensitive interventions due to my passion for supporting children in a way that makes sense to them and gives them a felt sense of being seen, heard and understood. Throughout my professional career, I have experienced first-hand the power of the therapeutic relationship and the importance of being able to hold the space to facilitate meaningful connection, healing and growth.
